Australian woolgrowers have voted to keep a levy of 1.5% on wool sales to fund research, development and marketing of the natural fibre.
37.85% of votes favoured an increased levy rate of 2.0%, with the next-highest option of 1.5% supported by 37.35% of votes. After preferences were distributed, 56% of votes favoured the 1.5% levy rate.
AWI Chairman Jock Laurie said the board was encouraged by the increased first preference 2.0% vote, showing that growers were prepared to back the company. “It’s a good message to us and the industry,” he said.
